Richard 'Gus' Guastamachio
Owner/Percussion Instructor
Richard 'Gus' Guastamachio graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music (Johns Hopkins University) in 1984 with a degree in Music Education and Percussion Performance. Gus served the nation as senior soloist with the US Army "Old Guard" Fife and Drum Corps, 3rd US Infantry (official escort to The President of the United States) in Washington, DC from 1982 to 1985. Gus has studied with a long list of great percussionists, including: Tony Ames, Michael Bookspan, Fred Begun, Gary Burton, Gary Chester, Bobby Christian, Paul Cormier, Jim Chapin, Gary Chester, Alan Dawson, Bob Gatzen, Jonathan Haas, Fred Hinger, Frank Hooper, Joe Morello, Ed Saindon, Ed Soph, Scott Stevens, Bill West and Christopher Williams.
Gus is a proud member of Vic Firth Education Team, Percussive Arts Society, Hudson Music TIP Program, Professional Drum Teachers Guild, Sabian Educator Network and the Connecticut Music Educators Association/Music Educators National Conference. Gus was the resident percussionist at The Spirit of Broadway Theater in Norwich, CT. Gus regularly performs with Chestnut Street Playhouse, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Goodspeed at Chester, Norma Terris Theatre, Ivoryton Playhouse, Windham Theatre Guild, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Concora and as a freelance percussionist. Gus has toured the USA and internationally in China.
Gus was recognized for his excellence in music education and performance by Cambridge Who's Who since 2012.
